We woke up for the last time in Yellowstone and prepared
to hit the road. We did not go far, just a little south to Grand Teton National
Park. The mountains were so amazing that Dani swore they were fake. We got set
up at Colter Bay where they were out of electric sites, so we continued our
boondocking experience.
Once we were set up we headed to the visitors center to
find some good trails and finally decided to buy some bear spray. A word to the
wise, if you plan on buying bear spray, buy it before getting to the park, they
crank up the price on everything…
We decided to do a short loop over by Two Oceans Lake and
have a nice lunch at Grand View Point. When we got back, we headed to a ranger
talk on Grizzly 399. It was an interesting and sad story that we were glad we
got the opportunity to hear. It is crazy that bears only have about 1/3 of
their cubs survive. Grizzly 399 lost quite a few cubs over the years to various
causes, but many including the most recent (June 2016) were human related. We
found out that her stomping grounds were where we were just hiking. We have
mixed emotions about running into a grizzly bear. On one hand it would be
awesome to see, but on the other hand I am not so sure we would want to tango…
